Journey to 100X
When’s the last time you made 100X on an investment? Not 100% on your initial investment, 100 times your initial investment. That means you sink $10,000 into an investment and pull out a cool $1,000,000…for many investors this could be a life-changing outcome. That’s a 100X return, and in the investment community, we refer to this rare event as a 100-bagger. Viewed in the context of average investment returns, it’s nothing but fantasy or wishful day dreaming.

Ask any bystander of the industry what the fundamental difference between gambling and investing is and the response might be the role of skill versus luck in the outcome. But that wouldn’t be right. Many gamblers (for example Matthew Benham or Tony Bloom) show profound skill, and the role of luck in investing is well known. Rather, the key difference is that investing typically involves the creation or purchase of an asset with the expectation of long-term capital appreciation, which does not occur with gambling. In addition, in investing, the asset is never explicitly staked, whereas this always occurs with gambling – the best definition of gambling is staking money on an event having an uncertain outcome in the hope of winning additional money.
Speculation captures the crossover of the two activities. Like investing, it takes place in a financial markets environment but it tends to be shorter term, higher risk and focused on generating gains from price movement with less regard for the fundamental value assets.
How Often Does Dollar Cost Averaging Fail?
Think about the power of this conclusion. If you had picked a random month to start buying U.S. stocks and kept buying for the rest of the decade, there is a 98% chance that you would have beaten cash (and an 83% chance that you beat 5-Year Treasuries as well). Yes, there were times when you underperformed, but in a vast majority of periods you would have made significant gains.
America’s workforce is graying, and ageism could cost the economy trillions of dollars
The population of older Americans is projected to grow more quickly than the population as a whole. The Census Bureau estimated that about 36% of the US population was 50 or older in 2020, and that share is projected to grow to about 40% by 2050.
Older Americans are also working in larger numbers than ever before. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of Americans 55 and older either working or actively looking for work has more than doubled since the 1990s, with about 37 million older Americans in the workforce as of March 2021.
The Best Summary of How to Win Friends and Influence People
Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous, because it wounds a person’s precious pride, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment. …. Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain—and most fools do. But it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving.
